December rains

It's coming down out there like the rains of Ranchipur and all the snow is being washed away. Poor Lupé, only wet soppy puddles to splash in. And poor me, from the mud and the leaves she tracks in.

Went to a 2pm matinee of Education yesterday at the Charles. I liked it. I'm quite fond of Peter Sarsgaard, and as usual he turned in a bright performance. The story of the seduction of an ambitious high school student by a worldly older man, avoids (thankfully) all the Lolita clichés and becomes a fascinating morality/coming of age tale. The whole cast was wonderful. I give it ★★★1/2.

I've got lots of detail work to do on Ganges 3 in the studio, so off I go.

My Norfolk Island Pine dressed with the lightest of the light ornaments and sparely so as not to put too much stress on its delicate limbs.
I just wasn't up to dragging out the big lighted one.

I did it.

Every inch hand shoveled.

And I worked some in the studio first.

I think I'll be hurtin' tomorrow.

Full of UGHs

Jon managed to go standby on an earlier flight home from Rhode Island last night, because his original flight was delayed 2 hrs. I shoveled out a parking pad for his car at the end of the driveway and he was very thankful. This morning, however, he's off to work and I have to face the rest of the driveway if I ever want to get my car out. I'm missing water aerobics this morning. Sigh. I guess my exercise will be snow shoveling today.

My bad foot has been acting up again. After a reprieve for about three months or so. Now the outside edge of the bottom of my foot is extremely painful. I put on *das boot* again last night and that seemed to help. Along with keeping my feet shod from the moment I step out of bed till I turn in at night. Too much walking around barefoot, I guess. And my sleeping position on my side (to spare my left shoulder) is curling my right foot under, so the fascia shrinks during the night. Great. It really sucks to get old.

I feel like a rusty old bucket of bolts barely chugging along on the road. .... and it'll only keep getting worse. UGH.

Hope to get in the studio-- maybe even BEFORE I shovel. Fuck the snow.

revisiting The Devotchkas

When I first heard The Devotchkas, I liked them as much as the next suburban self-proclaimed punk in a post-punk era.
Don't know much about them, when they came about, but they're an all-female band, which I am all about and they have the tallest fucking mohawks I've ever seen on an angry white girl.

Their song titled "Sorry" was ironically unapologetic about not "giving a damn cuz I'm proud of what I am!" which I was down with.
Then there's "Hip Hop Kids"

"I hate hip hop kids, I hate their fucking noise
I hate the hip hop girls and i hate the hip hop boys
They want to stare you down when you're walking down the street
They want to have a laugh because your style doesn't meet
Hip hop music, what a laugh, god i hope that shit won't last
Baggy clothes, fucked up limp, they think its cool to act like a pimp
I hate hip hop girls
I hate hip hop boys
I hate hip hop kids
I hate hip hop noise
Way of life, there is no pride
Who fuckin cares if tupac died
I don't care, white or black, this song is not a racial attack
But i will still have my say, hip hop kids: go away!
Work a day of life, most of them have never heard of that
Government check, parents sitting home, getting fat
Don't give a fuck what you've got to say
Always with an attitude, when they pass they feel you should pay"

Are the Devotchkas white supremacists? My guess is, yes.
Nazi punks allll the way.
Apparently, their idea of hip hop is just as fucked up as their 'hawks.
"Baggy clothes, fucked up limp, they think it's cool to act like a pimp"?
Sweetie that is your white rich daddy's idea of hip hop.

These unconscious women do nothing offer the most blatant stereotypes about black people "government check, parents sitting home, getting fat...." The makers of "Precious", Daniel Patrick Moynihan, or even the KKK couldn't have said it better.
And just like any fucking racist, they thoughtfully include that "this song is no racial attack"

Obviously this song comes from a place of racism and blatant ignorance.
A great example of racism, hating, shit talking something that is strange to you, something you have no knowledge about.

Wow Devotchkas, you are punk rockers from the late 90s.
Angry white ladies, most likely from the suburbs, trying to play hard, calling out something you have NO clue about! Telling me "who cares if Tupac died" Tupac a revolutionary, a poet, a man who captivated the minds of young people (unlike you) and urged them to rise. How dare you?

You call yourselves punk rockers, but your shit is far from punk rock (and I'm not only talking about the timing 1996? Bad bad timing). I'm pretty sure you are injecting ignorance and racism into those who listen/have listened to you (I'm really hoping that number is really really small).

Have some substance!

Disgusting grey crappy rain on a Sunday in mid-December

Yesterday I watched the BBC 3 part series on the Ganges, of special interest to me since I've been painting the mouth of the Ganges. Man, I discovered that the atlas I've been using for a reference is about as club footed as a duck in galoshes! Which is to say I've missed about 75% of the fine detail. I was able to freeze frame one of the aerial views of the delta and take a picture of it. So I now have a better reference and plan to do a third one. Frankly I could do a whole series just on the mouth of the Ganges now that I have this kind of detail to look at!

But I'm currently working on Myanmar (which will always be Burma to me). So I must finish that first.

It's a craptastic freezing rainy day in December out there. Really gross.

I pared down my friends list significantly yesterday. Apologies to anyone reading that got cut. My intention was to clear out the dead wood, ie. people who no longer post anything, or interact with me on LJ. I mean why bother? If you're not on LJ, not posting, not reading, then why are you still on my friend's list? If you object to being cut, speak up and I'll reinstate if you're going to be posting or interacting more.

Now it's time to repair to the studio, which I love all the more now that it's so spiffy and rehabbed. I'm keeping it super clean, too (so far).
fucking awesome
